Following
7 years fronting the rock group, The Tender Idols, english
singer/songwriter Ian Webber goes solo with a new album. With
a sound more pastoral and whimsical than those of his band
past, Webber's songs are a refreshing pastiche of occasionally
brooding piano and guitar bits. With singles, "The man
who cried" a beefy ballad a la Travis' "driftwood" and
the pop hooks of "Further down the avenue" (think
Coldplay, Neil Finn), Webber capitalizes on keen melodic sensibilities
and a well developed falsetto. Newly signed to the, "New
sound conspiracy" label and currently touring in the states
behind his dedut album, "Blanketcoveredmorning".
"The
man is a factory of great melodies, in a melancholy Neil Finn
or Travis sort of way. I was singing or humming along to every
song, despite never having heard them prior to that night.
It's great music for driving around and moping." - Talk
of the Town
