Atlanta, Georgia’s Gentle Readers formed in 1992, hoping that the allusion to Miss Manners they chose for their moniker would suggest a gracious approach to rock and roll music. Each of the band’s three albums is in fact a melodic, literate affair that the critics have heartily endorsed and a loyal and ever growing group of pop music enthusiasts have enjoyed. It’s not too late to become a Gentle Readers convert; it is, however, too late for the band to change their name. Had they realized they would be mistakenly referred to as everything from the Gentile Readers to the Gentle Beavers, they would have simply called the band what it is: Ladies and Gentlemen Playing Rock Music for Ladies and Gentlemen.

The Susi French Connection EP, vol. 1
(File Under Guilty Pleasure)
What do the Gentle Readers do in their spare time? They morph into the fabulous Susi French Connection, playing the 1970’s songs that made the whole world sing. Better yet, the crowd sings.

With their release The Susi French Connection EP Vol. 1, the Gentle Readers celebrate what can only be explained as a strange journey into another dimension. Recorded live (mostly) over two shows, the band simply learned songs they liked and enjoyed themselves. It nearly made all members of the band want to stop working at a car wash and selling insurance to pursue life in a wedding band, but a carefully-timed intervention by interested parties got the Readers back on track. They are currently working on their own songs for a new release.

Were the band to issue an official statement about their blissful days as the Susi French Connection, it would read something like this: “It was like an addicting, crippling drug. We couldn’t stop - without the adoration playing 70’s songs brought us, we were afraid we might die. But then, with help, we kicked it, and now we’re back to a sober, normal life, where you suffer a lot, occasionally experience mild sensations of contentment, and mostly you work.”

Gentle Readers - Hi Honey
“Rooted in the best of '60s guitar jangle, as chilly as '70s Manhattan art-school punk, blessed with clean '80s pop production, and intelligent with a '90s retro-literary bent; this could be the perfect record for the year 2000.”

Gentle Readers - You in Black and White
“Pop songwriting and hooks get you to swaying your hips and mouthing words you don't yet know before you've heard the record twice - always a good sign…They’ve hit the mark this time.”
